The National Assembly approved definitively the ban on wearing full or partial face covering in public places. The ban will be valid on the premises of all official institutions and facilities in villages and towns connected with administrative, educational or communal services, as well as of all public places of recreation, sports, culture and communications. Before the start of debates on the bill, the Movement for Rights and Freedoms (DPS) proposed that the discussion be dropped from parliament’s agenda, as it “opens the gateway to revanchist, radical, morbid forces”. The ban will not be applicable in citizens’ homes or official places of worship of the respective denomination. Violations thereof will entail a fine of 100 euro for first-time offense and 750 for every subsequent offense.
