On the eve of the European Night of the Museums and the International Museum Day, museum and art gallery professionals are protesting symbolically under the slogan: “For decent wages!”, BTA reports.

“On the day of the protest, you will find us in all Bulgarian museums and art galleries. We will open their doors even wider to all those for whom Bulgarian culture and Bulgarian consciousness still mean something. You will recognize us by the distinctive protest ribbons,” say the employees, whose average gross salary is 827 euros.

The protesters are making several demands – among them, that wages increase by a certain percentage each year and gradually reach 125% of the average salary in the country, the way it is done in the Education sector.

The National Federation "Culture" at the Podkrepa Trade Union, which is organizing the protest, warns that if the demands are not heard, effective nationwide strike actions will be initiated.
