Bulgarian Lukoil companies receive special license from UK

Photo: BTA

Great Britain has issued a special license on Friday that allows businesses to continue to work with two Bulgarian subsidiaries of sanctioned Russian oil company Lukoil, Reuters and BNR Horizont reported. The general license allows companies and banks to carry out transactions until February 14, 2026 with Lukoil Bulgaria EOOD and Lukoil Neftochim Burgas AD, as well as their subsidiaries.
The move follows new UK sanctions announced last month against leading Russian oil producers, including Lukoil and Rosneft, for their role in financing Moscow's invasion of Ukraine. The license, issued by the UK's Financial Sanctions Enforcement Agency, allows payments and economic resources to flow to and from the Bulgarian companies under existing or new contracts.

Today, on the sidelines of parliament, GERB leader Boyko Borissov announced that Bulgaria could receive a derogation from the US for 6 months today.
