Ivan Markov snatched the silver at the World Weightlifting Championship in Poland

Ivan Markov won silver medal in the 85 kilo category contest at the World Weightlifting Championship in Poland with a total of 381 kilograms (175 kilos in the snatch category and 206 kilograms in the clean and jerk one). Russian athlete Apti Aukhadov became world champion with a total score of 387 kilograms (175 kilos in the snatch contest and 212 kilograms in the clean and jerk one). Russian weightlifter Artem Okulov won the bronze with a total of 381 kilograms and bigger personal weight than Markov. The Bulgarian athlete also won the silver medal at the snatch contest.

The football team of Litex (Lovech) remained at first position in the current rankings of the Bulgarian Premier League. The team defeated 2:0 Neftochimic (Burgas) in the town of Sliven. Hristo Lemperov from Neftochimic scored an own goal in the 42nd minute of the game. The second goal was scored by Litex player Jurgen Gjasula in the 79th minute. The team of Ludogorets (Razgrad) kept its second position after an easy 5:1 victory against Liubimets. Lokomotiv (Plovdiv) placed 3rd after a 1:0 home victory against CSKA (Sofia) which ranks 4th after this round. The team of Levski (Sofia) defeated 1:0 Botev (Plovdiv) with a goal scored by Garry Rodrigues in the 85th minute of the game. Levski remains 7th in the current rankings.

Best Bulgarian tennis player Grigor Dimitrov lost to Roger Federer 3:6; 6:7(2) at the quarterfinals of the Basel 2013 Tennis Tournament. Dimitrov had a good start, but Federer managed to win the 1st set. In the second one Grigor showed a steady play, but was defeated in the tiebreak. However, Dimitrov added another 90 points to the ATP rankings after the tournament.

Bulgaria won bronze medal at the Acrobatic European Championships in Portugal. The team consisting of Denis Andreev, Valeri Serafimov, Atanas Tashev and Martin Vasilev placed third with a total score of 81.100 points. The tournament was won by Great Britain with a total score of 84.450 points.

According to the lot cast last week, Bulgarian female volleyball team will play in a group with Azerbaijan, Greece and Portugal at the qualifiers for the 2015 European Volleyball Championships in the Netherlands and Belgium. The teams will play in two tournaments between May 22 and 25 and May 29 and June 1, 2014. The winner of the group qualifies directly for the European Championships and the second one will have to play additional qualifiers.

Bulgarian grandmaster Veselin Topalov lost his game to Radoslav Wojtaszek from Poland at the match of the leaders prior to the sixth round of the European Chess Club Cup. Topalov competes for the team of SOCAR (Azerbaijan) which dropped off the first place in the overall rankings after 3 losses, a draw and two wins against the team of Novy Bor (Czech Republic). The team of Rostov (Russia) with Bulgarian Ivan Cheparinov places third. Cheparinov drew his game against Peter Leko from the team of Ugra (Russia).

Dia Evtimova reached the semifinals on clay at the Casablanca (Morocco) Tennis Tournament where she was defeated 3:6; 2:6 by Russian Victoria Kan. Evtimova left the tournament with 24 points for the women’s WTA rankings.
