The Foundation – a rock project

Photo: private archive

Some years ago a few well-known Bulgarian rock musicians joined in a project, entitled the Foundation. Slavcho Nikolov is the guitarist of BTR, Kiril Marichkov is the vocalist of Shturcite, Venko Pomoranski is a former percussionist of “Te,” Donny is a popular pop singer and Ivan Lechev is guitarist of the FSB. Together these musicians held a concert in March 2013 before friends. The new band quickly gained popularity and invitations for a number of concerts and festivals followed.

More from Slavcho Nikolov: “It was Donny that gave the idea for this band. Before the Foundation we had a project entitled Acoustic Beatles Project. The Foundation is a kind of continuation of it. We are musicians from different generations and bands and perform Bulgarian favorite songs. They come from the repertoire of Shturcite, FSB, BTR, the Doni and Momchil duet and the late Georgi Minchev. We made a number of acoustic arrangements to the songs we perform. We named the project The Foundation as we want these songs to remain. We collect a fund of beloved Bulgarian songs. In reality The Foundation could become an eternal band for Bulgarian music of high quality.”

In the autumn of 2013 the musicians had a tour to the U.S. They performed in L.A., Las Vegas, Seattle, San Francisco, Chicago, New York, Boston, Toronto and Montreal.

“The tour had great success. We performed in front of Bulgarian audience, who were singing all of our songs. The concerts there led to invitations for concerts of BTR and FSB. With BTR we are leaving on February 28 and would return in the end of March. In the autumn The Foundation will have 20 concerts in the U.S.”
