Defense and Armed Forces are strategic priorities of the state, Bulgarian President Rosen Plevneliev said after a meeting of the Consultative Council on National Security that lasted for more than three hours. During the meeting political forces represented in parliament discussed the condition of the Armed Forces and the prospects for their development in the current deteriorating security environment. A document was approved by the Council and a broad political agreement was reached during the meeting with the exception of the Bulgarian Socialist Party and the Ataka Party, said the head of state. NATO is the strongest guarantee of the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Bulgaria. Being an ally we are determined to contribute to the implementation of the common decisions, aimed at the adaptation of the Alliance to the changing security environment, the President pointed out. I am pleased with the achievements, as they were extremely important for Bulgaria and for the armed forces, Defence Minister Nikolay Nenchev said after the end of the meeting. It was agreed that the financing of the Bulgarian Army will be increased, starting in 2016. In 2015 financing for the army will remain unchanged as priorities are pensions, infrastructure and education. In 2016 thanks to increased financing we will be able to reform the army, Prime Minister Boyko Borisov said.
