During a meeting in Sofia with Bulgarian Patriarch Neophyte, the Vatican Secretary of State, Cardinal Pietro Parolin, has expressed hope for strengthening the relations and cooperation between the Catholic and Orthodox churches in the social and educational sphere. The Bulgarian Patriarch expressed his gratitude for the opportunity of Bulgarian Orthodox parishes to have their liturgical and spiritual life in Western and Central Europe. The Patriarch and Pope agreed that relations between Catholics and Orthodox Christians must follow the path described by Pope John XXIII, according to him we should seek what unites us rather than what divides us.
