Bulgaria’s Minister of Energy Temenuzhka Petkova met with the Deputy Chairman of the Iranian Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture Farhad Sharif to discuss cooperation between Bulgaria and Iran in the gas field, the press center of the Bulgarian Ministry of Energy announced. Bulgaria views Iran as a potential source of gas for a future gas hub on Bulgarian territory. A supply of compressed gas from Iran to the Georgian port of Poti and from Poti through the Black Sea to Bulgaria can be achieved in the short run. In the long run the gas supply can be made by new gas pipelines or by LNG terminals. The construction of gas interconnections with Bulgaria’s neighbors and Bulgaria’s participation in the project for construction of LNG terminal near Alexandroupolis is of great importance for Bulgaria, because we would be able to achieve real diversification of gas resources, Minister Petkova said. Fahrad Sharif said in return that there is a great potential in LNG supply and that an LNG complex for gas supply to Bulgaria and Europe can be built in Bulgaria in the future.
