A special police operation has been taking place at the Kulata checkpoint on the border with Greece and the Kalotina checkpoint on the border with Serbia, the Bulgarian Ministry of Interior said. Checks target mostly heavy trucks and aim at combating smuggling of excise goods, it was reported. The police operation also aims at prevention of corruption. The Interior Ministry added that measures had been taken in order for the operation not to hamper normal traffic through border crossings during the holidays.
