President to decide whether to veto election code within days

Bulgarian President Rosen Plevneliev stated he would make up his mind whether to veto specific texts from the new election code within days. The Bulgarian head of state was speaking in Koprivshtitsa where he attended celebrations commemorating the April uprising. He stated he had a legal team checking each of the texts of the election code one by one to make sure they are not in violation of the constitution.
“You know very well I have assumed a commitment to the Bulgarian people – veto, but with clear justification. If there is a veto it will be for specific texts and with clear justification,” said President Plevneliev and added that the voice of Bulgarian citizens abroad will be heard.
Bulgarians living abroad have been urging the Bulgarian head of state to veto the amendments to the election code which they say are creating obstacles to their constitutional right to vote.
