On June 24 Bulgarians mark Enyovden – a celebration of medicinal herbs. On the same day the Orthodox Church marks the birthday of St. John the Baptist and often the rituals and traditions of the two occasions intertwine. It is believed that on Enyovden the various herbs possess the strongest medicinal power, especially at sunrise.
