Bulgarian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education, Meglena Kuneva, has met with German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier to discuss the situation in the wake of the British referendum on leaving the European Union. The ministers are taking part in the General Affairs Council in Brussels, which is the first EU ministerial meeting after the results of the UK referendum were announced and also a warm-up for the big European Council coming next week. Ms. Kuneva said that an urgent issue for Bulgaria was clarifying the organisation of the rotational presidency of the Council of the EU. Member states holding the presidency work in groups of three and this country is currently in a trio with the UK and Estonia, as the British mandate should start on July 1, 2017. We are to start active consultations with all parties on whether to extend the mandate of the previous trio or to change the current system, Kuneva told reporters.
