Bulgaria’s Chief Directorate Combating Organized Crime prevented an illegal import of 22 tons of liver from Italy. The illegal consignment had to be destroyed at the order of the Italian authorities. The liver was transported on a truck with UK registration number. It was found at a parking lot near Plovdiv Customs. The driver of the vehicle is a fifty six year old man with Bulgarian and Turkish nationality. Officers of the Bulgarian Customs Agency and the Bulgarian Food Safety Agency undertook administrative measures aimed at confiscating and destroying the liver in an incinerator. The Regional Prosecutor’s Office in Plovdiv was informed about the case.
