New waste management facility unveiled near Veliko Tarnovo

Prime Minister Boyko Borissov and Minister of Environment and Water Ivelina Vassileva unveiled earlier today a new regional waste management system builtin the village of Sheremetia near Veliko Tarnovo. The system has been financed with more than 16millioneurofrom the Environment Operational Program. The facility will receive and treat the waste of the municipality of Veliko Tarnovo and of five neighboring municipalities – Lyaskovets, Gorna Oryahovitsa, Elena, Zlataritsa and Starzhitsa with a total population of 180,000. Minister Vassileva pointed out that during the new EU programming period 280 million euro would go for upgrading landfills. After the construction of the state-of-the-art environmental waste management system, five landfills in the region will be closed down. Prime Minister Boyko Borissov said that this was very important for the protection of the environment and of human health and for the development of tourism in the six municipalities.
