Topalov with draw and loss in second round of Champions Showdown 2016 chess tournament

Bulgarian chess grandmaster Veselin Topalov has recorded a draw and a loss in the second round of the 2016 Champions Showdown chess tournament, taking place in St. Louis (USA).

Playing with the black pieces Topalov lost on the 14th move against chess grandmaster Hikaru Nakamura (US). In the second game of the round Topalov, once again playing with black pieces, reached a draw on the 38th move against Fabiano Caruana (US). The Bulgarian GM is currently third in the standings with a total of 2 points. Leader is Viswanathan Anand (India) with 2.5 points.

The tournament in St. Louis includes four of the best players in the world and has a prize fund of150 000 U.S. dollars.
