Bulgarian scientists discuss budget at outdoor meeting

Some 1,000 Bulgarian scientists have gathered in a square downtown Sofia. For the first in the history of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, founded in 1869, scientists organized an outdoor General Assembly meeting to discuss the budget of the Academy for 2017, as well as salaries of scientists. At the meeting of the parliamentary committee on education yesterday, President of BAS Acad. Stefan Vodenitcharov announced that 1835 employees out of a total of 6800 people working in the academy receive the minimum monthly salary of 215 euros. The average salary in BAS is 356 euros a month, while the average salary in the country is 456 euro, according to NSI data by the end of 2015.
