Ten months after the adoption of the EU-Turkey Statement the European Commission reported that no major redirection of migrant routes has occurred. 4 or less illegal crossings a day were registered at the Bulgaria-Turkey border during the period. The total number of migrants in Bulgaria decreased since the end of September. Bulgaria requested to send back to Turkey 543 illegal migrants from non-EU countries. So far Ankara received only 19 of them. The number of irregular crossings of the Aegean during the reporting period remained dramatically lower than before the EU-Turkey Statement. With regard to the implementation of the Visa Liberalization Roadmap, seven benchmarks remain to be met by Turkey. The Commission encourages Turkey’s efforts to complete the delivery of all outstanding benchmarks as soon as possible, the EC further notes in its report.
