Sofia Airport served nearly 5 million passengers in 2016, which was 22% more as compared to the previous year. Highest increase year on year was registered in the number of passengers from regular international flights-24%. It was due to the fact that 23 new airline routes were launched in 2016. Last year 24 airlines made regular flights on 70 routes. The five biggest air carriers Wizz Air, Bulgaria Air, Ryanair, Lufthansa and Austrian Airlines served over 3.5 million passengers to and from Sofia Airport. London, Vienna and Frankfurt were the most preferred flight destinations in 2016.
