BNR initiates lawsuit against Musicautor

Photo: library

The Bulgarian National Radio has initiated a lawsuit against the society of composers, lyricists and music publishers for collective management of copyright Musicautor over violation of EU rules and violation of national legislation. The BNR requires compensation payments for tangible loss and non-pecuniary damages. On January 1, 2017, Musicautor unilaterally suspended the contract with the Bulgarian National Radio and banned it from playing much of the contemporary Bulgarian and foreign music. Musicautor represents over 2,700 Bulgarian authors. Musicautor represents authors from nearly 100 countries worldwide and holds the copyright of almost the entire world music repertoire due to reciprocal contracts with foreign sister societies in more than 70 countries.
