The European Commission has made 17 recommendations that need to be met in order for monitoring on Bulgaria to be lifted. This has become clear from the newest report by the commission under the Mechanism for Cooperation and Verification, applied to Bulgaria and Romania.

After ten years of operation of the Mechanism for Cooperation and Verification, Brussels made a review of achievements and remaining challenges, as well as of the measures that still need to be taken in order for the monitoring mechanism to be lifted. The recommendations focus primarily on insufficient progress in judicial reforms and the fight against corruption and organized crime in Bulgaria.
