Road map signed for transmission of Russian gas across Bulgaria

A road map was signed by Bulgarian Energy Minister Temenuzhka Petkova and Gazprom CEO Alexey Miller exploring new possibilities for the transmission of Russian natural gas across Bulgaria.

According to the document the sides will look into the question of developing the gas transmission infrastructure on the territory of Bulgaria, taking into account EU rules.

No specific details or terms have been disclosed. The working meeting took place within the frameworks of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum 2017. Minister Petkova acquainted Alexey Miller with the Bulgarian government's idea of a gas hub Balkan.

During the meeting in St. Petersburg the sides noted that Russian gas supplies to Bulgaria have gone up by 14.5 percent over January-May compared to the same period of 2016.

Recent months have seen the emergence of the idea of a second pipe from the Turkish Stream pipeline that would reach Varna.
