On the 13th of June, on the stage of Studio 5 at the National Palace of Culture the premiere of a project, titled “Antoni Donchev & Georgi Kornazov” will be presented.

Let's recall that Georgi Kornazov is one of our best Bulgarian trombone players. He has been living in France for years now.

“I am the author of the music, which I recorded two years ago with Brazilian pianist Leonardo Montana in the album Conscience", he says. "I offered pianist Antoni Donchev to promote it to Bulgaria and last year we had something like a premier in jazz clubs in Sofia and Budapest, but the official premiere is on June 13 in Studio 5. Although we did not announce it this way, this will be the first time when we present the project in its finished form. It includes my music and two plays by Antoni. The challenge is to play in a duo, as the performer is exposed to far more risks. It is quite different when on stage one is surrounded by many people. Another new project is the one we made with Zhivko Petrov trio. We had not worked with Zhivko for many years. This time I wrote new plays and he also provided his own plays. We will present our project at the beginning of August in Burgas and on August 30 in Sozopol at the Apollonia International Art Festival. I haven’t performed at this festival for more than 10 years.”

In the period between the joint concert with Antoni and the work in Bulgaria in August, Georgi Kornazov will be in France, where he takes part in a number of interesting appearances. In the city of Saint-Raphael, he will hold a master class with students from the music school in the city. The master class will end with two concerts. At one of the concerts Georgi will perform together with the students and at the other he will play together with lecturers. The trombone player has written two new suites - one for each concert. After that, Georgi would take part in the Saint-Raphael Jazz Festival, along with one of his French formations.

"The project is called Brass Spirit. The instruments are trombone, trumpet, accordion, drums and susaphone (an instrument that is characteristic of the so-called marching bands). The band has existed since 2015. I am waiting for the music we perform to "ripen" in the process of playing - like young wine left to gain more depth and essence. I wrote a suite in D-major and D-minor. This is the concept of this project. I've reworked it for a big band and in French it is called Ré-miniscence. This is a game of words. On the one hand réminiscence means reminiscence, reflection. On the other hand, this dash clarifies my concept - the work is in "Re" and brings together small scenes (mini scenes). I spoke with Antoni Donchev, the conductor of the Big Band of the Bulgarian National Radio, who expressed the wish to include the work in the orchestra's program. I hope he would invite some of the soloists I work with. The most recent thing I did is this French-Bulgarian trio that I had a tour of Bulgaria with. In it we are together with the Bulgarian jazz singer Petar Salchev and a wonderful French pianist Armel Dupas. It is quite interesting and I hope we will continue to work with this trio. At the initiative of Peter Salchev, a Bulgarian poet wrote poems on my music. For me this is something quite new - my instrumental compositions have never been turned into songs. The idea is to turn in into a bigger project involving a symphony orchestra."
