EU ready to give Bulgaria more time to absorb EUR 160 million granted for border protection

The European Commission is ready to give more time to Bulgaria to absorb the EUR 160 million allotted to that country for protection of its state borders, a letter of EU Commissioner for Migration, Home Affairs and Citizenship Dimitris Avramopoulos reads. We received a letter from Commissioner Avramopoulos on Friday which informed us that the European Council was ready to extend the deadline with 12 months, Bulgaria’s Minister of Interior Valentin Radev announced. So far Bulgaria has absorbed EUR 35 million out of the EUR 160 million granted by the EU for border protection.
