The Bulgarian National Assembly has adopted the 2016 Status Report on Bulgarian Defense and Armed Forces.

The main conclusion of the document is that the Bulgarian Armed Forces are able to fulfill their tasks on missions stemming from constitutional obligations to guarantee the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of the country within the framework of NATO's collective defense and the Common Security and Defense Policy of the EU.

However, there have been a number of difficulties related to systemic financial shortage, shortage of staff and the poor state of obsolete arms and combat equipment.
