EC: There are many gaps in Sofia’s application to host European Medicines Agency

Photo: library

The European Commission has presented an assessment on the bids of the EU countries to host the London-based European Medicines Agency and European Banking Authority after Brexit. There are many gaps in Sofia’s application, the EC notes. For instance, Bulgaria did not specify the frequency and the duration of the flights to and from Sofia. The application does not provide details about the job opportunities in Sofia either. Bulgaria’s proposal does not provide information on how the relocation of the agency will take place and how much the use of the proposed premises will cost. Bulgaria’s cabinet voiced readiness to build a separate building for the European Medicines Agency in Sofia Tech Park. However, it does not mention the necessary budget. It is not clear whether the necessary infrastructure would be provided either. The EC notes that the assessments are not a ranking and that the final decision will be taken by the European Council in November
