With a ceremonial meeting in Sofia the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (BAS) marked its 148th anniversary.

Projects of young scientists and scholars from the Academy were awarded with diplomas under the program for support of young scientists and scholars implemented jointly with the Ministry of Education and Science.

The Bulgarian Academy of Sciences is the biggest scientific organization in the country and represents an autonomous state structure. It has a range of research institutes and other units.

Originally founded as the Bulgarian Literary Society in Braila, Romania, in 1869, it moved to Sofia in 1878 and in 1911 was renamed to Bulgarian Academy of Sciences.
