According to the European Mediterranean Seismological Centre the earthquake registered at 9.18 hours local time measured 7.6 on the Richter scale. The epicenter was 204 kilometres northeast of the capital of Iraq Baghdad and 108 west of Kermanshah, Iran at a depth of 10 kilometres.
