Starting on 15 November the Nativity fast preceding Christmas celebrations begins.
The 40-day fast has been adopted to honor the Nativity of Christ, so that Christians could welcome the Son of God with repentance, prayer and fasting, and ultimately with a chaste heart.
Until 22 November Christians should consume a vegan diet. From 23 November till 19 December fish is allowed in the meals excluding Wednesdays and Fridays.
From 20 to 24 December the vegan diet is reintroduced and on 25 December Christians switch to an ordinary diet as they celebrate the Nativity of Christ.
