Carrying posters reading "No more idling around" and "No more lies", people from the village of Vladaya and Sofia's Knyazhevo residential district organized their 5th protest since 2016, demanding the improvement of the public transport service and the road infrastructure in that part of Sofia. They briefly blocked off traffic along the A-79.
They are demanding that bus number 22 be restored as well as more vehicles along line A58. They also want traffic lights for pedestrians to be installed at Vladaya railway station and at the Alexandrov Bridge-Mala Koria street junction to provide better road safety.
The protestors are also unhappy with the rehabilitation of the E-79. They say that the repairs were made in a hurry and that due to poor drainage houses and yards are getting flooded when it rains. Drainage shafts have been left without covers, the road markings are inadequate and hence dangerous, guardrails have been removed in some sections of the E-79, making it dangerous.
Vassil Nikolov, chairman of the initiative committee of Vladaya and Knyazhevo stated that unless their demands are met, they will organize another protest next week.
The Road Infrastructure Agency stated that all steps to clean up drainage shafts on the road have been taken and speed limit and traffic changes signs will be put up in the coming days. The complete overhaul will be completed in 2018.
