Not building Belene N-plant is the worst of options, reads a report of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (BAS) about the potential to carry out the project for a second Bulgarian NPP.

In parliament Energy Minister Temenuzhka Petkova recalled the BAS conclusion and argued that the project would be viable with a ratio of public to private funding at 70:30 percent and an interest rate at 4.5 percent.

Petkova added that “the project cannot be carried out without the participation of the state because nuclear risk remains in the territory of the Bulgarian state.” She called for bringing back to the plenary hall in parliament the debate about the Belene N-plant.
