PM Boyko Borissov: We expect Great Britain to remain our strategic partner

Boyko Borissov and Theresa May

Despite the processes currently taking place between the EU and Great Britain, Bulgaria expects the United Kingdom to remain a strategic partner of the Union on key issues such as security and combating terrorism, Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borissov said, addressing his British counterpart Theresa May, at whose invitation he is paying a working visit to London.

The two discussed cooperation in the sphere of migration and security. The sides commended the interaction between the special services of Bulgaria and of Great Britain. Boyko Borissov stated that he expected London’s support for the integration of the countries of the Western Balkans, as their accession to the family of democratic values was the biggest guarantee of the successful and peaceful development of the European continent.

Theresa May stated that though her country was leaving the EU it was not leaving Europe, and added that as former home secretary, she appreciated the efforts Bulgaria has been making to curb the migrant crisis in Europe and in the fight against serious crime.
