The MPs observed one minute of silence today to commemorate the victims of the communist regime and the so-called “Revival Process” – the forcible renaming of the Bulgarian Turks.
To mark the Day of Remembrance and Commemoration of the victims of communism, the ruling GERB party issued a declaration describing 1 February, 1945 as one of the most criminal dates in the history of the country, reiterating that 73 years ago, the “People’s Court” sentenced to death by firing squad the regents Prince Kiril, prime minister Bogdan Filov and General Nikola Mihov, prime ministers Ivan Bagryanov and Dobri Bozhilov, 22 cabinet ministers, 67 MPs and 8 royal advisors.
The MPs from the Movement for Rights and Freedoms (DPS) appealed for paying tribute to the victims of the “Revival Process”, during which the communist regime forcibly renamed hundreds of thousands of Turks. The Bulgarian Socialist Party declared that there was no way it can be “put in the dock” because it is a party that has only fought, arms in hand, against fascism and monarcho-fascism in Bulgaria.
