Bulgaria’s Patriarch Neophyte and Russia’s Patriarch Kirill served on the historical Shipka Peak a requiescat for the heroes who lost their lives for Bulgaria’s liberation. Patriarch Kirill prayed for the spiritual link between the Bulgarian and the Russian people to remain inviolable and last forever. Bulgaria’s Patriarch Neophyte said that the Shipka Monument of Freedom has remained one of the brightest symbols of the centuries-old friendship between Bulgaria and Russia, a symbol of mutual love and Orthodox Christian unity. Bulgaria’s President Rumen Radev delivered a speech in front of the Shipka Monument of Freedom. President Radev is a patron of the National Initiative Committee for the celebrations of the 140th anniversary of the Russo-Turkish War of 1877-1878 and the restoration of the Bulgarian statehood. Bulgaria’s head of state Radev thanked Patriarch Neophyte and Patriarch Kirill for holding the church service together, for their wise thoughts and Christian spirit and voiced hopes that the capital of historical dignity left by the thousands of courageous men who took part at the battle on Shipka Peak will not be wasted. Thousands of Bulgarians and foreign guests climbed Shipka Peak to participate at the celebrations.
