Bulgaria’s cabinet discussed a forecast about this country’s demographic development until 2040, prepared by the Institute of Population and Human Research at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. According to the main conclusion, the trends in the demographic development of this country in the next decades will be similar to the current tendencies. The forecasts read that the Bulgarian population will decline by 20%-25% until 2040. The share of young Bulgarians aged 20 or under will remain the same and the number of people aged 65 or above will increase significantly. According to the forecasts, despite the expected improvement in the mortality and birthrate indicators, the Bulgarian population has probably reached the stage of the so-called Momentum of Reverse Growth where the number of population continues to decline.
