Addressing the summit meeting of the South-East European Cooperation Process (SEECP) in Slovenia, Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borissov stated that the European perspective for the region has no alternative and the SEECP remains an essential political format for an open and honest discussion on issues that are crucial to the region.
Borissov welcomed the European Commission’s Strategy for the Western Balkans and the readiness to open membership negotiations with Tirana and Skopje, and added that there must be a European perspective for all countries of the Balkans.
"Now is the time for the countries of the Western Balkans to demonstrate their determination to develop," the Bulgarian prime minister said.
Boyko Borissov held a bilateral meeting with his Slovenian counterpart Miroslav Cerar, discussing ways to deepen economic contacts. Miroslav Cerar described Bulgaria’s role as key to the Europe-wide efforts to solve the refugee problem. Speaking of the EU-Turkey leaders’ meeting in March, Borissov pointed out that dialogue is crucial in tackling this issue and that the EU’s migration agreement with Turkey must be observed.
