Coal is a basic energy source and if coal prices rose, it would cause a rise in price throughout the entire production chain. This was what Bulgarian Minister of Energy Temenuzhka Petkova said after meeting representatives of protesting Maritsa East miners.

They have called for a rise in the price of lignite coal. Miners also insist on investments in new machinery and equipment. Minister Petkova pointed out that she understood their requests and recalled of the significantly improved financial condition of the company.

Minister Petkova is committed to visit the mines next week in order to get acquainted with the current situation and continue dialogue.
