The wife of the popular Bulgarian mountaineer Boyan Petrov has confirmed on Facebook that her husband has been missing for several days. Boyan Petrov has attempted to climb the 8,000 m Shishapangma mount in the Himalayas. On May 6 the Embassy of the Republic of Bulgaria in Beijing received information from the Tibetan Mountaineer Association that that Bulgarian mountaineer Boyan Petrov was missing since May 3.

Boyan Petrov has taken part in an expedition in the Himalayas together with ten other people- 1 Hungarian, 5 Italians and 4 guides of Nepalese origin. Boyan Petrov’s tent and sleeping bag were found on the morning of May 6 at an altitude of 7350 meters. The search was temporarily ceased due to sudden worsening of the weather conditions in this region. Despite the bad weather, a group of three Sherpas renewed the rescue operation today.

The three Sherpas have reached Camp 1 below Shishapangma peak but the Bulgarian was not found there. The rescue operation has ended for today. The three Sherpas will spend the night in the region and will resume the search on the way to Camp 2.
