About 20 tons of cannabis have been destroyed during a police operation in the region of Petrich, Southwestern Bulgaria.

Because of the hard-to-reach terrain, helicopters were also involved in the operation that started yesterday. Since the beginning of the season, the total quantity of raw cannabis destroyed by the police has reached 58 tons, regional police said. 27 pre-trial proceedings have been initiated, and 12 people have been detained.

According to the police, the price of a kilogram of dry cannabis varies between 3000 to 5000 BGN, depending on the quality and quantity.
