Bulgaria’s Special Prosecutor’s Office held another operation in Sofia against an organized criminal group over illegal manufacture of tobacco products and money laundering. The police raided offices of companies owning popular night clubs in Sofia. Earlier, a large-scale police operation was held in the city of Plovdiv at the end of August when four illegal cigarette factories were discovered on the territory of this country. A total of 42 tons of tobacco amounting to nearly EUR 3.5 million and nearly 200,000 packets of cigarettes estimated at EUR 750,000 were seized. The prosecutor’s office pressed charges against 23 people. Two people were detained and four are under house arrest.
