President Rumen Radev has requested the Constitutional Court to declare unconstitutional and non-compliant with international agreements, individual provisions of the act amending and supplementing the administrative procedure code.

The amendments were adopted by parliament last week. President Radev is advocating keeping court hearings public and showing due consideration for the social and economic conditions in the country when setting down the level of court fees. By force of the amendments adopted, the fees are to go up 14 times for natural and legal persons, and 74 times for non-profit legal entities.

“Lawfulness is not a service a law-governed state provides to the public, it is essential to its existence,” the Bulgarian head of state said.
