Today hundreds of thousands of Bulgarians live in poverty and social exclusion. They are placed in the degrading position to struggle to satisfy their basic human needs, Bulgaria’s President Rumen Radev said at a round table dedicated to inequality and poverty in Bulgaria. In his view, inequality today in Bulgaria is far from any average European indicators and is so deep that engulfs all types of attempts for unification around nationally significant development goals. According to data of Eurostat, in 2017 the incomes of the wealthiest Bulgarians were eight times higher than the incomes of the poorest citizens whereas in the EU the incomes of the wealthiest people are 5.2% higher than the incomes of the poorest ones on average.
