The Bulgarian army is more than 5,500 troops short, said Defence Minister Krasimir Karakachanov at the military pledge ceremony of the first-year students at the Vasisl Levski National Military University in Veliko Turnovo.

In the words of Minister Karakachanov this does not jeopardize the military capability of the Bulgaria army because the people who serve in the military are giving their all. Every effort must be made to make the military profession more prestigious and attractive, Minister Karakachanov said, and added he was expecting salaries in the sector to be raised by another 10 percent this year.
