Bulgaria’s National Assembly adopted at first reading amendments to the Corporate Income Tax Act. According to the amendments, the owners of old vehicles in Bulgaria will pay higher taxes after the introduction of a property and environmental component. The taxes for vehicles with Euro 1, 2 and 3 emissions standard will increase with 30% on average. Over 2 million cars will be affected by the higher tax. Taxes for cars with Euro 6 emissions standard will be 10% to 20% lower. The calculation of the car taxes will be based on a completely new formula with an accent on the environmental component. This is a moderate step and the tax of the old vehicles will increase with only 30% on average, the Chairperson of the National Assembly Budget and Finance Committee Menda Stoyanova commented.
