EC presents Cooperation and Verification Mechanism reports for Romania and Bulgaria

The European Commission will today release the Co-operation and Verification Mechanism reports for Bulgaria and Romania. The papers show the progress of both countries in the sphere of judicial reforms.

Last year, the Commission made 17 recommendations to Bulgaria in order to achieve the Mechanism's objectives, so that it could be lifted. Vice-President of the European Commission Frans Timmermans said progress has been marked in many areas, but more work was needed. EC President Jean-Claude Juncker said that monitoring of Bulgaria and Romania would end by the end of his term in office. To do this, however, the countries must show serious results in the fight against corruption.
