Former Macedonian Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski may have used a Bulgarian passport to escape the country. This is what Hungarian media Nepszava writes on the occasion of Gruevski's escape to Budapest and his request for political asylum.

Gruevski has been without a passport since the summer of 2017 and has been banned from leaving the Republic of Macedonia.

Gruevski was sentenced to two years in prison over a tender for the purchase of a Mercedes-Benz for 650,000 euros.

The Former Macedonian Prime Minister is not a Bulgarian citizen and has not issued a Bulgarian passport. This was what the Bulgarian Ministry of Justice said in connection with media reports that Gruevski, who has an effective sentence in the Republic of Macedonia for abuse of power, has entered Hungary using a Bulgarian identity card.

Former Macedonian Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski has neither wanted nor issued a Bulgarian passport, Prime Minister Borisov told reporters after his meeting in the Council of Ministers with Zoran Zaev, Prime Minister of the Republic of Macedonia.
