The European Commission has approved Bulgaria's request for the Karnobat grape brandy /„Karnobatska grozdova rakya“/„Grozdova rakya ot Karnobat“/ to enter the list of protected geographical indications. The Commission states that the brandy has at least 40 degrees of alcohol, has a light yellow color due to aging in oak barrels and the addition of caramel. "This brandy has a pronounced taste of mature grapes and nuances of apple and fig. It is produced in several municipalities in eastern Bulgaria," the definition reads.
