Bulgaria is among leaders in EU when it comes to transport costs

Bulgaria is among the EU countries whose citizens spend most money on transport, Eurostat data for 2017 show. Bulgaria ranks 5th in the chart, as13.9% of household expenses go for transport. Leader according to this indicator is Slovenia with 16.3%, followed by Lithuania with 16%, Germany - 14.7%, and Luxembourg - 14.4%. At the opposite end of the chart is Slovakia. There, the cost of transport per household is 7.9% of its total budget. In the Czech Republic the level is 10.1%; Belgium - 11.1%, and Romania - 11.2%. Transport is the second biggest cost of EU households after housing. Food and non-alcoholic beverages come third.
