Photo: library

Bulgaria has the highest hospitalization rate in the EU, though regarding length of stay in hospital the country is second to last, Eurostat data show.

This means patients in Bulgaria are admitted to hospital most often, but spend very little time there before being discharged.

European data indicate that this country has the highest per capita hospitalization rate, while at the same time it holds the record in avoidable burden of disease mortality rate, and has a high infant mortality rate.

In Bulgaria the average length of stay in hospital is 5.3 days. In the different countries it varies from 5 to 10 days. In the Netherlands the average length of stay in hospital is 4.5 days.
