Bulgaria is the largest producer of herbs in the European Union, data of Eurostat shows. In 2017 a total of 81,000 tons of aromatic and medicinal plants and herbs were grown in this country which was double the amount planted in the second-biggest producer of herbs Poland. Bulgaria is the second-biggest producer of sunflower seeds (2.1 million tons) after Romania and the fourth-largest producer of raspberries (48,000 tons) after Poland, Spain and Great Britain. Moreover, this country is the fifth biggest producer of tobacco in the EU (13,000 tons).
