US National Security Advisor John Bolton is the latest in a string of high-ranking officials from the US administration to declare public support for the decision by PM Boyko Borissov to choose the F-16 fighter jet for the Bulgarian Air Forces.

“I strongly support Bulgarian PM Borissov's efforts to buy U.S.-made F-16's - a superior aircraft when compared to competition. It also will greatly strengthen our strategic partnership, build on NATO’s shared defense responsibilities, and contribute to the job security of over 4000 Americans. This is a great deal for Bulgaria, America, and NATO!” John Bolton wrote on Twitter. Earlier, the decision was commended by US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and also by the White House.

On Wednesday the Bulgarian government approved the proposal by Defence Minister Karakachanov to ask parliament’s authorization to begin negotiations with USA on the acquisition of F-16 aircraft. On its part the USA undertook to make price concessions in the course of negotiations.

Today, the government's proposal to buy F-16 fighters was submitted to parliament for approval.
